Frequently Asked

The questions, answered plainly.

Everything people ask before their first trip — and a few practical notes on the shop. If you don't see what you need, the full guide goes deeper.

Is Wreck Beach really clothing-optional?

Yes. Wreck Beach is North America's largest clothing-optional beach. Nudity is the norm on the sand but it is not required — people in swimsuits or beach clothes are entirely welcome. Wear what you're comfortable in.

Is Wreck Beach safe?

Generally yes. It's a public beach with a long-standing community of regulars, vendors and visitors. The main hazards are the sun, the cold Pacific water, the strong currents at the points, and the stairs back to the top. Watch the tide, drink water, and pace your climb out.

How hard is the trail / how many stairs?

Trail 6 is a wooden staircase of about 483 steps dropping roughly 80 metres from NW Marine Drive at UBC down to the sand. The descent is easy for most people. The climb back up is moderate cardio — manageable for reasonably fit adults, harder in summer heat. There is no road access.

Where do I park?

The closest paid parking is the UBC lot at NW Marine Drive and Acadia Road, a short walk from the Trail 6 trailhead. Pay by plate via the UBC parking app or the kiosks. Lots fill on summer weekends — arrive early or take transit.

Can I take photos?

Photography of people without their consent is strongly discouraged and considered a serious breach of the beach's etiquette. Wide landscape shots away from people are fine. Put the camera away if anyone asks.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are welcome on leash, but the stairs and the heat make it a hard trip for most dogs in summer. Bring water for them. Pick up after them — there is no service on the beach.

When's the best time to visit?

Sunny afternoons from late May through September are peak. For quieter days, try weekday mornings or the shoulder seasons. A clear evening at low tide, two hours before sunset, is the locals' magic window.

Is this site official?

No. Wreck Beach Guide is an independent guide and souvenir shop. We are not affiliated with the City of Vancouver, the University of British Columbia, or the Wreck Beach Preservation Society. Anything sold here is independent merchandise — not "official" merch.

How does shipping work?

Orders are printed on demand by our fulfillment partner and ship from North America. Most orders dispatch within 3–5 business days. Canadian orders typically arrive within 7–10 business days; US within 7–12. International shipping is available at checkout.

What's your returns policy?

Because every item is printed to order, we accept returns or exchanges only for defects or shipping errors. If something arrives wrong, email us within 14 days with a photo and we'll make it right.

How do sizes run?

Tees and caps run true to standard North American sizing. Each product page includes a size chart. If you're between sizes on a tee, size up — they're cut for an easy fit.
